Move-In Repainting

The best painting project of your life happens in a house you haven't slept in yet. Here's how we run the window between your closing date and your moving truck — and why it's worth guarding.

Scheduling Off Your Escrow Date, Not Our Calendar

A move-in repaint lives or dies on timing, so the plan starts where your purchase does: the escrow calendar. Tell us your expected closing date and we reserve crew time against the days that follow it — then we manage the plan the way escrow actually behaves, not the way it's supposed to. Closings slip; lenders ask for one more document; recording happens Friday at 4pm instead of Tuesday at 9. We build that slack in from the start, confirm as your date firms up, and stay in touch through the week of closing so the crew shows up the day after you get keys, not the day you hoped you would.

Backwards from Closing, Forwards to the Movers

The project is planned as a bridge between two dates you give us — funding on one side, the moving truck on the other — with the finish walkthrough landing comfortably before the boxes do. We've moved hundreds of families into freshly painted homes, and the schedule never treats the painting as the priority — your move is.

Colors Chosen Before You Own It

Your inspection and final walkthrough are legitimate chances to plan. Walk us through on video from inside the house — before you even have keys — and we'll scope the project, talk colors room by room in the home's actual light, and have your one flat written quote ready the day escrow closes. No surprises on move-in day; every color and surface is already decided.

Relocating to Las Vegas? Remote Walkthroughs Work

Plenty of our buyers close from out of state and arrive to a finished house. The video walkthrough, the quote, and the schedule all work remotely; the first time some families see their new color is the day they walk in behind the movers. We handle the thinking, the scoping, and the color selection over FaceTime while you're still in your current state.

The Empty-House Advantage

Painting an occupied home is a logistics exercise — moving furniture twice per room, masking around a household's life, sequencing so the family can keep living there. An empty house deletes all of it, and what's left is pure painting. We mask the floors, the windows, and the fixtures, and then we spray: whole rooms in continuous passes, ceilings and walls and closet interiors as one job, followed by backrolling that works the sprayed coat into the wall texture for a uniform, brush-mark-free finish across every surface in the house. It's faster and cleaner than any occupied repaint can ever be, and the finish is the kind you simply cannot produce with a roller working around a sectional. Every color change still gets two full coats of Sherwin-Williams paint — spraying speeds the work, it never shortcuts the coverage.

Why Spray Beats Roller in an Empty House

Spray application covers 3x faster than a roller can, but it only works in an empty space where nothing is getting overspray. In your new empty house, that speed translates to a finished interior in days instead of weeks, which protects your move-in date and gives us margin against any surprises the inspection turned up.

Two Full Coats on Every Color Change

The speed of spray application never sacrifices coverage. We apply two complete coats of Sherwin-Williams paint on every surface that's getting a color change, so the previous owner's palette never shows through, no matter how bold that forest-green was.

Backrolling for a Flawless Finish

After spraying, we backroll — using a roller to gently work the wet sprayed finish into the wall texture and eliminate any slight variations. The result is a perfectly uniform, brush-mark-free finish that looks professionally painted, because it is.

Erasing the Previous Owner — All of Them

A move-in repaint isn't decorating; it's an eviction. The previous owner's forest-green dining room, the growth-chart pencil marks, the scuff line where their dog patrolled the hallway, the mystery patch jobs — all of it goes. And the part most buyers don't think about until the first warm afternoon: odors live in painted surfaces. Years of cigarette smoke, cooking residue, and pet life soak into walls and ceilings, and ordinary paint alone won't hold them back — they bleed through fresh color within weeks. Where the walkthrough tells us odors or stains are living in the surface, we seal them first with stain-blocking primer, the purpose-built coating that locks smoke, nicotine, pet, and water stains permanently under the new finish. Then the color goes on, and the house's history stays sealed where it belongs.

Identifying Hidden Odors and Stains

Some problems are obvious—yellow ceilings in a smoker's bedroom, brown marks from water damage. Others live in closets and corners where air doesn't circulate. We assess every room for odors, stains, and discoloration at the walkthrough, and plan stain-blocking anywhere we find them. By move-in day, the smell is already sealed away.

Stain-Blocking as the Invisible Foundation

Stain-blocking primer is the reason your repaint lasts. Without it, odors and stains bleed through fresh paint within months. With it, the finish holds for years and the house is truly clean on a surface level that ordinary paint can't achieve. Learn more about how stain-blocking works.

What a Move-In Repaint Covers

  • Whole-interior repaint — walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and closet interiors, scoped room by room at the walkthrough
  • Repairs before paint — nail holes from the previous owner's gallery wall, drywall dings from their move-out, settling cracks, and failed patch jobs, fixed properly rather than painted over
  • Stain-blocking, odor-sealing primer wherever smoke, pets, or water marks live in the surfaces
  • Two full coats of Sherwin-Williams paint on every color change, so the old palette never ghosts through
  • A finish walkthrough with you before moving day — lines, coverage, closets, ceilings — so move-in day is only about moving in

Buying a place that needs the outside handled too? The same empty window is the ideal time to run both at once — see how we coordinate a whole-home interior and exterior reset as one project.
